###Ocala Star-Banner – Advent: Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Center, known in Spanish as La Guadalupna, Advent celebrations, Ocala, FL #### Father Alfonso Cely (cq), with the Hispanic Ministry of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, waits in the cold for a special Advent program, the four weeks prior to Christmas, to start shortly after midnight on Monday, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Center, and also know in Spanish as La Guadalupna, located at 11153 W. State Road 40, in the “Little Mexico” area of rural horse farms, awaited the arrival of the Los Caporales Mariachi, of Tampa. The celebration or feast day of the patroness of the center Our Lady of Guadalupe is traditionally celebrated in Mexico with a serenade starting just after midnight on December 12, according to Father Cely (cq), with the Hispanic Ministry of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church. Father Cely ministers to a many Mexican parish at Our Lady of Guadalupe(cq) with special celebrations and customs from Mexico. Nine days of special prayers, Masses, recitation of the Rosary, started the special Advent program that is of Mexican origin for Our Lady of Guadalupe. Diocese of Orlando Bishop Thomas Wenski made his first ever visit to Catholic Center Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Joseph Convent on Sunday afternoon, March 30, 2008. The convent is home to the Missionary Sisters Catechist, or in Spanish, Hermanas Misioneras Catequistas, that arrived in Ocala on Jan. 30, 2007, from Medelln, Colombia. This is the religious orderÕs only convent in the United States and officially had their convent blessed and opened April 22, 2007. Bishop Wenski celebrated the Mass with Father Alfonso Cely and Father Patrick Sheedy and Deacon Eddie Berrios, all of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, Ocala. Father Cely estimated that more than 400 people attended the Mass, packed from wall to wall, with folding chairs. The Tuna La Trinidad de Blessed Trinity, of Ocala, a Spanish style musical band, typical of the European minstrels musicians, performed complete with black capes, serenading the Bishop by the altar and also outside during a luncheon. The to Catholic Center Our Lady of Guadalupe officially opened in 2002. The Catholic Center and convent are both located at 1153 W. State Road 40, Ocala. Asher (cq) was the first baby born in Ocala for 2006, arriving at 2:45 am, weighing 8 pounds and 11 ounces and 20 inches in length. The new baby’s brother Noah Stevens (cq) age 2 years, the mother’s husband Shaun Stevens (cq) including the Mary Leidecker (cq), the baby’s great-grandmother, all of Hernando, were on hand to visit the new arrival. The baby was delivered by Linda Reilly (cq) a certified nurse midwife, according to the Danielle Stevens(cq). The mother’s labor lasted about 9 hours and went “beautifully” compared to her first that baby’s birth, Noah, that lasted 36 hours. “We hope he has an opportunity to be blessed as we are.
