Ocala Star-Banner – Advent: Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Center, known in Spanish as La Guadalupna, Advent celebrations, Ocala, FL – Father Alfonso Cely,of Ocala, dances and sings to the Spanish songs of Our Lady of Guadalupe, raised high above the altar. An Advent wreath with candles, music and songs of Our Lady of Guadalupe about 1 am Monday, while the party diehards drink warm, spiced tea. An estimated 700 people attended a special Advent program, the four weeks prior to Christmas, starting shortly after midnight on Monday, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Center, and also known in Spanish as La Guadalupna, located at 11153 W. State Road 40, in the “Little Mexico” area of rural horse farms, awaited the arrival of the Los Caporales Mariachi, of Tampa. The celebration or feast day of the patroness of the center Our Lady of Guadalupe is traditionally celebrated in Mexico with a serenade starting just after midnight on December 12, according to Father Alfonso Cely, with the Hispanic Ministry of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church. Father Cely ministers to a many Mexican parish at Our Lady of Guadalupe with special celebrations and customs from Mexico. Nine days of special prayers, Masses, recitation of the Rosary, started the special Advent program that is of Mexican origin for Our Lady of Guadalupe, Monday morning, December 12, 2005, Ocala, FL. Parishioners of Our Lady of the Springs Catholic Church, located at 4047 Northeast 21st Street, celebrate with a Christmas Eve Mass, with an early start time at 4pm, and another in the evening and one Christmas day. Father Andrew Mallick (cq) pastor, of the Our Lady of the Springs Catholic Church, also has two mission churches, was busy getting his vestments on for his trip to St. Joseph of the Forest Church, in Silver Springs and then traveling to a Mass at St. Hubert of the Forest Catholic Church, in Astor, all on Christmas Eve. “It is the birth of Christ: Joy, love and rejoicing! It is the end of the Advent season. . . Give glory to God on high!” stated Father Mallick. Father Ronald Oser (cq), serves as the parochial vicar, and was the celebrant at the 4pm Mass. The church’s patroness, Our Lady, the mother of Jesus, and the near by location of the famous waters of Silver Springs, combined to give the name to the church, that recently celebrated 25 year anniversary with a special Mass and a vist of local Diocese of Orlando Bishop Thomas Wenski(cq). The Advent season, a special period of four weeks prior to the coming of Christmas Day, is ended in the celebration nativity scenes, special church services, prayers, carols and gift giving for Christians throughout the world that observe the birth of the baby Jesus, marked on December 25. – Saturday afternoon, December 24, 2005, Ocala, FL. ####Pauline and Earl Raub celebrating 80th wedding anniversary at Avante Nursing and Rehab Center, Leesburg##Earl Raub, 96, and wife Pauline Raub, 95, both of Weirsdale, but Pauline currently is a resident of Avante Nursing and Rehab Center in Leesburg. Here the couple kiss at their 80th wedding anniversary with singing by Bob Rodgers, of Ocala. Their daughter Paulina Maxson, (cq) 77, of Weirsdale, was on hand for the celebration. The couple is possibly the oldest known current married couple in the United States, and possibly second to a couple in England. Robles (cq) is a very popular Spanish singer in Puerto Rico, Panama, Dominican Republic and Costa Rica featuring rumba, salsa, flamenco and pop music. A resident of Marion County since 2000 performed twice, a matinee and evening concert at the Ocala Civic Theatre, but was busy switching between English and Spanish introducing songs and on the side stage talking with dancers and musicians. A local guitar player Diego Fuentes (cq) of Ocala, opened the show. Choreographer William Umpierre Cruz (cq) of Puerto Rico, who has appeared in the movie “Havana Nights” spun Robles in the lifted into the air during a flamenco song. Sheila Ruotolo (cq) of Ocala, a teacher at Madison Street Academy was among the local dancers.
